Electric Radiators
Shop electric radiators – an effective, easy-to-install alternative to central heating, with independent room-by-room control.
Electric radiators give you independent, room-by-room control without the pipework of a wet central heating system. Each radiator heats on its own, so you only warm the rooms you're using - ideal for extensions, loft conversions, flats, garden rooms and homes off the gas grid.
Our range spans sleek electric designer models, traditional column styles and modern panel designs, in plug-in and hardwired versions with smart Wi-Fi thermostats, in classic finishes like black, white and chrome alongside a range of colourful options, in horizontal and vertical formats.
How electric radiators heat: glycol, dry-thermal and ceramic-core
Electric radiators differ in how they hold and give out heat. You'll find the heat type listed in each product's specification, and all three work well - the right one depends on how you use the room.
- Glycol-filled (sometimes called fluid-filled) radiators use a sealed thermal fluid heated by an electric element. They warm up steadily and give a gentle, radiant heat much like a traditional central-heating radiator, and carry our longest body guarantee - you'll find them across our electric designer range.
- Dry-thermal radiators use a dry heating element with no fluid, so they heat up and respond quickly - good for rooms you want up to temperature fast.
- Ceramic-core radiators store heat in a ceramic block and release it slowly, staying warm for a while after switching off - good for steady background warmth.
Smart controls and what affects running cost
Modern electric radiators come with accurate digital thermostats, timers and, increasingly, Wi-Fi app control. Good control is what keeps running costs in check - heating each room only when it's in use, to the temperature it needs, rather than the whole home all day. Your actual running cost depends on your electricity tariff, your home's insulation and how you use the radiator; for a figure tailored to your home, speak to a qualified heating engineer.
How to choose an electric radiator
Three simple decisions get you to the right model - style, installation and control.
- By style and format - designer, column or panel, in vertical or horizontal, to suit the wall and the room.
- By installation - plug-in for a standard socket and no electrician; hardwired for a permanent, tidy fit (fitted by a qualified electrician).
- By control - look for digital thermostats, timers and Wi-Fi app control if you want to schedule heating room by room.
How to choose an electric radiator for a room with no central heating
For extensions, conversions and garden rooms, electric radiators are often the simplest answer - no pipework, just power. Size each one to its room with our BTU calculator, then decide between plug-in (quick, flexible) and hardwired (permanent, tidy). Check each product's heat type in its specification to match the warmth to how you'll use the room.
What affects how much an electric radiator costs to run?
Running cost comes down to three things - your electricity tariff, how well the room holds heat, and how you control the radiator. Accurate thermostats and timers mean you heat only when and where you need to. We can't give a single figure that fits every home - for a guide to your circumstances, a qualified heating engineer is the best source.

Frequently asked electric radiator questions
Are electric radiators expensive to run?
Running cost depends on your electricity tariff, how well the room is insulated, and how you use the radiator. Models with accurate thermostats and timers help you use only the energy you need. For a guide tailored to your home, speak to a qualified heating engineer. For more on what affects running costs, see our guide to electric radiator running costs.
What's the difference between glycol, dry-thermal and ceramic-core?
Glycol-filled radiators use a sealed thermal fluid for steady, radiant heat like a traditional radiator. Dry-thermal models use a dry element and heat up quickly. Ceramic-core models store heat in a ceramic block and release it slowly. Each product lists its heat type in the specification - the right choice depends on whether you want familiar radiant warmth, fast heat, or slow-release background heat.
Do electric radiators need an engineer to install?
Plug-in models plug into a standard socket. Hardwired models should be fitted by a qualified electrician. Check the product details for which option each radiator offers.
How long is the guarantee and what does it cover?
Our electric radiators carry a free guarantee of up to 20 years on the radiator body (20 years on glycol-filled models, 10 years on dry-thermal), with a 2-year guarantee on the element or thermostat. It covers faults caused by the materials or manufacturing of the product, starting from the date of delivery, and doesn't cover wear and tear, accidental or deliberate damage, or the cost of removing and refitting the product. Full terms are on our BestHeating Guarantee page.
